Did you know there are habits that thwarts all your efforts at getting a clear skin? . 10 worst things for your skin ‘my skin is bad no matter what i do’. Read on to see some of these daily habits that harm your skin and why you should stop.

Smoking: . Toxins in cigarette smoke damage the elastin and collagen in the skin which are the major components that give the skin its firm structure. When these fibrous components are affected, the skin loses elasticity and becomes saggy.

Smoking also causes premature aging as Nicotine (a substance found in cigarettes) restricts  blood flow by narrowing the blood vessels. This restriction deprives the skin of oxygen and other nutrients, leading to a pale and uneven skin tone.

People who smoke are more liable to age faster than those who don’t. The first signs of premature aging are noticed on the face, especially around the eye and mouth areas.

No Sunscreen: When rays from the sun hit your skin, it breaks down elastin and collagen in the epidermis , penetrating deeper into the skin. This causes sunburn, aging, sun spots. It is important to apply sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to avoid this damage. Apply it on your face, neck and body and every exposed part.

Not exfoliating regularly: Failing to exfoliate regularly can lead to an accumulation of dead cells. This leads to a dull-looking skin. Also, not exfoliating regularly may also affect other products you use as the products will not penetrate easily into the pores.

Not moisturizing day and night: This is one of the most important habits that is often over looked. When you leave home without a moisturiser, you expose your skin. It is important to moisturize the skin day and night in order to keep the oil gland from over working. Moisturizing also prevents dryness which can lead to bruising and Inflammation.

Unclean make-up brushes : Most times, the little things really do matter. The difference between you and a clear skin could just be a dirty make up brush. Wash your brushes often and regularly to keep your pore from getting clogged with acne-causing bacteria.

Stress: You apply all the products but you don’t get enough rest? No, it’ll definitely tell on your skin. Knowing when to take a break is very important as the stress hormone (cortisol) is released when you are stressed, leading to an increased oil production in the sebaceous gland of the skin. Of course we all know one of the main causes of acne is an oily skin.

Diet: Finally, eating your way to a clear skin is easy. Fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, together with healthy fats from nuts and a varied and balanced diet will help the skin stay radiant from the inside.
